Arizona or Bust!

It's official:

We are moving to Flagstaff, AZ for Dan to pursue a PhD.
It has been a long bumpy road to come to this decision but we feel good about it. Before you start making comments about getting out of the snow and enjoying hot summers be aware that Flagstaff only gets to about eighty five in the summer and gets over one hundred inches of snow annually. It is only two hours from the Grand Canyon South Rim and is a forested small town surrounded by hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities including many Native American ruins. The best part about it though? This guy:

The school mascot is the lumberjack, and they have an eight foot tall bronze, ripped, shirtless statue holding a double edged axe in the middle of campus. Yeah, there will definitely be some funny pictures coming as a result of this gem. To make it even funnier, I told my mom to google it while we were there last weekend and she said, "He's actually very nice-looking," Brenda-speak for , "That guy is hot!". (sorry mom, it was just too funny) Honestly, I don't think she is necessarily wrong though. . . . Check out those muscles. . .

In all seriousness, there is a lot we need to figure out before we load up the truck and head down there, but we are excited for this new adventure. Any tips on moving out of state, finding housing in a ridiculously over-priced market etc. are welcome!

We are excited for you! This will be a fun adventure, and a challenge too. We are ready to help in any way we can. My advice about moving out of state is to look for all the good - and don't bring up how much better you liked your old ward, home etc. If you have a positive attitude and look for all the beauty in the area and the people, you will find everything you could possible dream of.
Contact the Bishop/Relief Society Pres. in the ward where you would like to live and have them be your housing scouts. They may hear things that are available that will never make it to the advertising stage. Good deals go really quickly.
PS. Shad looks like he has grown a couple inches since his birthday. He's such a cute little boy! 'Wish he could have a sleep over at our house. Love you all. MOM B.

These pictures do not do the lumberjack statue justice. I had a hard time trying to get Mikaela to leave the NAU campus because she kept trying to fondle the statue.

Yeah! Welcome to Arizona living guys. Can't wait until you're here... even if you will be in the glorious trees/85 degree weather while we're sweating in 115 here. Okay, I guess the winter won't be too fun but that's why you can come visit us down here! I'm loving the lumber jack. I believe he'll be the cherry on top of coming up to see you guys in Flagstaff. Congratulations on getting in to the program Dan!

Congrats to Dan! And WOW, that really is quite the statue :) It will definitely be a challenge, but a blessing and learning experience. By the way, Shad looks way cute as an NAU fan.
